Surviving Anti-LGBT Politics Part 7: Expand Chosen Family

Let us not be in this fight alone. Isolation, discouragement and powerlessness is exactly what all of the chaos and damage is designed to accomplish. Each one of us is stronger with another. Now is the time to push your envelope and get out there and join hands with your brothers and sisters.

Find your tribe

No matter what you’re into from macrame to fisting, there are are plenty of people who share your values, passions, and pursuits. There are people who feel just like you. Find and join an organization, club or cause you gel with. Grow your circle of trusted and loved friends, participate in community events.

Surround yourself with good people

Life is too short not to be surrounded by people who you love and love you back. Become part of the fabric and find some fellows you can bond with. Be vulnerable and let yourself be known, you will find others who like it. Build new friendships and connections to share the good and the bad with.

Lean into your community

Get active with your time, energies, and find your purpose. When we volunteer for events and causes we not only get to know others fighting the same fight, we find opportunity. There are lots of groups and causes that need you desperately right now. If you cannot find one, start a new group or event.

Be the friend you want others to be for you

Bring others in, invite them to be a part of your orbit. Maybe you’ve already done all of the above, reach out and bring others in. Let people know you care about them, love them and want them to be a part of. Be of service to the elders or the disadvantaged in our community, we need you.
