Illinois Governor JB Pritzker this week said it best in his stand up speech to MAGA, “we are watching and taking names.” In his fiery but matter of fact warning to Donald Trump and his ilk about bringing the military to the streets of Chicago a very poignant point was made.
There is a day when this will all be over. Like all other despots and dictators, their movements and their regimes eventually fall and end badly. This is will happen here too. History shows that the pendulum always swings back. There will come a time again when a Democrat is in the White House, Democrats will control the House and Senate.
There will come a day when the LGBTQ community can again enjoy health care stability, the right to serve in the military, the right to work anywhere we want, the unquestioned right to be who we are inside, and yes paint rainbow crosswalks without worry of the MAGA state erasing them.
That day will come and all of you Log Cabin Republicans who stood by, enabled, cheered and defended the MAGA movement will be held to account.
You lined up like the rest of the red hats right behind a man anyone with a basic moral compass recognized was a disaster waiting to happen for the LGBTQ community. You all scoffed at warnings of Project 2025. You ignored his felonious behavior, his convictions, his lies, his misogyny, his contempt for anyone not a white Christian heterosexual.
You ignored his campaign promises to do everything he is doing right now and then some. And for what? A tax break? A boost to your machismo? Cheaper eggs? Really? What was so worth it to you to put the rest of the world through this wretched horror?
Frankly the LGBTQ who voted for Trump are no less the fools than the Jews who voted for Hitler were back in the 1930s. They should have known better and so should have you. We all know how that worked out for them.
So know that those of us who give a damn about our own community, those who are fighting the good fight for the rights of everyone being attacked by this tyrant, will remember you and what you did. More important what you didn’t do will be remembered.
After the disgrace, the human tragedy, and desecration of our rule of law, the questions will at some point be asked of you. Know that your complicity is being duly noted by your peers and your community. When what comes around goes around you better be prepared to answer for it.
I will forgive you yes but I will never again fuck you. I will never again trust you. I will never hire you for a job. I will not invite you to my home or event. I will dox you with our peers at every turn. You will be a pariah who deserves not a shred of respect.
It’s not yet too late though. Admit your mistakes, let the better angels change your heart and fight with us. You want to right this wrong now before you are permanently marked by the side of history you stood with.
If we don’t fight together against authoritarianism and tyranny we will suffer our fates alone.
